Achieving a Higher Standard of Practice for sterile compounding and antimicrobial stewardship at ASHP

Posted on 11/22/17

The annual ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition promises to showcase the latest in best practices and cutting-edge advancements shaping the future of pharmacy operations. And you can be sure that the Pharmacy OneSource team will be there leading the charge with solutions that address key national quality improvement challenges: namely sterile compounding, hazardous drug handling and antimicrobial stewardship.

It’s unacceptable that risky sterile compounding processes—characterized by high potential for human error—remain largely manual in today’s hospitals and pharmacies. Additionally, the majority of today’s hospitals fall short of evolving regulatory requirements upping the ante on compliance with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) compounding guidelines.

We are happy to showcase the recent expansion of functionality within Simplifi 797 to help pharmacies comply with the coming hazardous drug requirements. While many pharmacies are breathing a sigh of relief over the recent postponement of the USP <800> enactment date, there are many reasons why forward-looking pharmacies are acting now to deploy systems and workflows that ensure readiness.

There is sure to be plenty of buzz about best practices with antimicrobial stewardship at this year’s event as today’s hospitals and health systems face unprecedented urgency to get head of antibiotic-resistant strains of microorganisms. Clinical leaders increasingly recognize that they must streamline workflows to move response to antimicrobial issues from reactive to proactive and provide best-practice guidance to minimize clinical variation.

Sentri7® clinical surveillance decision support system is proven to provide the critical IT support needed to power high-performing antimicrobial stewardship programs. In fact, a recent KLAS report rated the solution highest among its peers for driving tangible antimicrobial stewardship outcomes, giving it high marks for quality interventions that lead to better outcomes, ease of use and a customizable platform.
